Historically, the industrial production of glycolic acid has relied primarily on petrochemical processes that use formaldehyde as a synthetic intermediate. In light of stricter regulatory requirements and growing market expectations regarding safety and contaminant control, new production methods are becoming necessary.
After more than 13 years of research and development, BKB Chemicals has developed a patented technology that enables the production of bio-based glycolic acid from renewable plant-based resources, without the use of formaldehyde in the manufacturing process.
